06 Weekend Sudoku: A Beginner's Guide

So it's the weekend, you've got a coffee going, and this classic 9x9 grid is staring you down. Good. That's exactly the mood this game wants you in. Don't rush the first few puzzles just to get through them fast — Sudoku isn't a race, and treating it like one usually means you'll miss an obvious number sitting right there in plain sight. Start by scanning rows and columns that already have six or seven digits filled in. Those are your easy wins, and knocking a few out early builds momentum before the grid gets stubborn.

Key Combinations

  • Click an empty cell with the mouse to select it.
  • Click a number from the on-screen panel to place it in the highlighted cell.
  • Click a filled cell again if you need to swap out a wrong guess.
  • Use the mouse to jump between the grid and the number pad, no keyboard needed.

Pro-Level Advice

  • Work the 3x3 boxes that already have five or more numbers before touching the sparser ones — less guesswork, more certainty.
  • Keep a mental (or actual) note of which numbers are missing from each row so you're not re-scanning the whole board every single time.
  • When two cells in a box can only hold the same pair of numbers, that's your cue — everything else in that box just got a little easier to solve.
  • Don't fill a cell just because a number "feels right." If you can't logically eliminate the other eight options, leave it and come back once more of the grid opens up.
  • Take a short break if a puzzle stalls out completely. Staring harder rarely works; fresh eyes almost always spot what tired ones missed.
